Neighborhood II - Wittayou Rd., Ploenchit., Duangpitak Rd.

Bangkok Soi Ruamrudee (Soi=side street)

Bangkok Soi Ruamrudee is another nice residential side street for expat. In fact this soi is occupied mostly by expat. The rest is mostly by Thai businesses. We have a few Thai friends who own a small hotel, Jim’s Lodge there.

This soi was originally made up of medium sized condo complexes; about 10 years ago, hotelier moved in and started to buy off an older hotel and put up a new one. They also put up indoor shopping plaza and offices complexes. At about 15 odd years ago, there was a well known school, Ruamrudee International School here; founded by the Redemtorist Fathers and the Sisters of Holy Infant Jesus in 1957. Its main purpose was to serve the expat. community in the area.

They moved out to Minburi, a suburb of Bangkok because the school needed more spaces. They still maintain its quality and reputation and still serve the expat. community from areas of Bangkok.

Today, you can still find nice rental condominiums here. Some buildings are only two years old. Other buildings are older but they are usually well maintained. Since the price of land and building in this area is almost the highest in Bangkok.

Near the beginning of the Soi you have a 7-Eleven Convenient store for sundry items. I love these convenient stores. It is indispensable at any time and they usually open 24-hour a day.

Few boutique restaurants; French, Italians, Vietnamese and a shopping plaza in the middle of the soi, the All Seasons Place can be found here as well.

Residents of this soi enjoy many amenities nearby; shopping centers on Ploenchit Rd. (1 sky-train station away), a sky-train station right there at the beginning of the soi.

You also are not too far (3 long blocks) from Lumpini Park.

There is one thing that I don’t like about this soi is its sidewalk on both sides of the street is about 1 meter wide and there are sections that needed repairs. So you do need to walk carefully on the sidewalk.

Soi Nailert (East Side of Sukhumvit Rd.)

This Soi is very close to BTS Ploenchit SkyTrain station. The Soi is narrow but reasonable clean. There are few condos, homes, a local shop and a restaurant. Some traffics during rush hour but not too bad for walking.

Duang Phitak Rd.

This road is right next to the express way, its north side. At the intersection of Sukhumvit Rd. you have a large office building, the Ploenchit Center which connects directly to the JW Mariott Hotel on its south side. This center occupies most of the corner of this road.

Going down this road beyond 50 meters you don’t have much.
